I tried a beer from this brewery a while back and didn’t like it at all. During the Blues Festival it was time for a re-match. Per bought this bottle as a gift to my father. As you will soon see I liked this one allot more.

It poured a dark brown liquid with a big foam that left a nice lacing. It had a sweet and sour smell, with some sour fruits and a hint of wine. It tasted smooth with some sourness and ripe fruit. Allot better then the last beer I tried from this brewery. The sticker says it’s a porter but it doesnt really taste like one. Still, I quite enjoyed this beer and will happily try one from this brewery again, despite the bad start.

My brother brought his girlfriend along to the barbecue and it was fun to meet her. Seems like a nice and friendly girl.

The evening was so warm and nice that we sat outside until late in the night drinking beer and talking. We tried a couple of Harviestoun beers but Im gonna present them later on.

It poured a hazy pale yellow liquid with a medium sized foam. It smelled fresh and sweet with some banana. The first sip was fresh and very fizzy. Had a sweet flavor of citrus and banana. I wrote down belgian wit, which turned out correct.

It poured hazy red-brown liquid without foam. It also had some yeast floating around in the bottle. It had a strong sour smell with something chemical in the background. Similar to how it smells inside a barn full of cows that has pissed and shit all over. I honestly didn’t look forward to the first taste. It tasted sour with a strong chemical bitterness at the end. Which ones again reminded me of old cow piss, not that I’ve ever had any to drink but I recon this is what it would taste like. Overall this beer got the same reaction to all four testers. Did I finish it? Sure, it’s still beer. But two of them just sipped it and then gave up, considered it undrinkable. I got the feeling this needs 1-2 years to settle and age a bit.

Note: Apparently my score is below what is average for the beer and therefore not acceptible. How odd, I guess that is why it has such a high score.

It poured a dark brown liquid with red tones and a small foam that left just a little lacing. It smelled spicey and christmasy also something that I related to pumpkin seeds. Now that I see the name at ratebeer I realise that must be it. It had a complex spicey flavor that I had a hard time placing and a hint of nuts and a warm alcoholic finish. Very nice!

Me and Karin went to Birka yesterday. It’s an old viking town located on an island in Mälaren. During it’s time it was strategically placed to controll the trading routes and had a population of 1000 habitants. Today the only thing that is left of the town is findings in the ground.

We joined a tour and below us is where the town used to be. The start of the two main landing stages are visible in this pic as clusters of rocks.

Karin is standing on top of the hill where the castle yard was once. From this point the kings soldiers had a great view in all directions. Below is an area that was once under water and now houses a museum, restaurant and a jetty for the ferries.

They have started to re-build a couple of buildings to show visitors how it once looked at Birka. At the moment there are only 4 houses but more are to come.

Once we got home I felt I deserved a beer or two.

It poured a hazy golden liquid with a big foam that dissapeared fast and left a nice lacing. It also had some yeast in the liquid. Looked like a wheat beer, very appealing. It smelled sweet, spicey with peppers and some other spices. The first taste was smooth and it had a spicey peppery flavor with some honey and yeast. A bit to weak in the flavor to get a higher score, would have love some more of that spicey aroma to break thorugh in the flavor. Good beer though.
